Description
Afghani Chaap is a rich and flavorful vegetarian dish that features marinated soy chaap (a meat substitute made from soy) prepared with a blend of aromatic spices, yogurt, and nuts. This dish is inspired by Afghan cuisine, known for its robust flavors and creamy textures. The chaap is typically grilled or baked, resulting in a smoky and tender texture, making it an excellent option for special occasions or gatherings. Served with naan or rice, Afghani Chaap offers a delightful culinary experience that is both satisfying and indulgent.
Preparation:
- Marinate the Chaap:
- In a mixing bowl, combine yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, chopped green chilies, garam masala, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cashew paste, cream (if using), lemon juice, and salt. Mix well to create a smooth marinade.
- Add the soy chaap pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours (or overnight for the best flavor).
- Grill the Chaap:
- Preheat the grill or tandoor. If using an oven, preheat it to 200°C (392°F).
- Skewer the marinated chaap pieces on grilling sticks or place them on a greased baking tray. Brush with oil.
- Grill for about 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and slightly charred.
